Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has joined forces with CEZ Group to cooperate on entering the European clean hydrogen market.

On the 10th (local time) in Prague, Czech Republic, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CEZ Group for cooperation in clean hydrogen business and technology development.

This agreement was initiated to discover joint business opportunities in the European clean hydrogen market and contribute to achieving global carbon neutrality, leveraging both organizations’ expertise in nuclear power plant operation and hydrogen technology.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly pursue related projects such as low-carbon and renewable hydrogen production, fuel cell power generation, and e-fuel production. In addition, they plan to expand information exchange on hydrogen technology development across the entire value chain—covering production, storage, transportation, utilization, and safety—as well as on policies, regulations, technology, and market trends.

In particular, the parties plan to gradually assess the feasibility of demonstration projects and commercialization in the Czech Republic, centering on a clean hydrogen production model that utilizes stable power supplied by nuclear plants.

CEZ Group is the largest energy company in the Czech Republic, operating four Dukovany nuclear reactors and two Temelin nuclear reactors, and is responsible for about 70% of the country’s electricity generation. Currently, a project to construct two new reactors in the Dukovany region is underway, with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power participating as the main contractor.

Gong Younggon, Head of Hydrogen Convergence Division at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, stated, "This MOU will serve as a significant milestone for expanding our nuclear-based clean hydrogen business into the European market," adding, "We will bring together our technological capabilities and business expertise to build a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem together with the Czech Republic."
