Gijang County in Busan Conducts TBM at Environmental Cleanup Sites... Strengthens Worker Safety Management
Jongbok Jeong, County Governor of Gijang, Participates as "Daily TBM Leader"
Safety Training Provided Alongside Introduction of Eco-Friendly Vacuum Road Cleaning Equipment
Gijang County has strengthened on-site safety management by conducting pre-work safety inspection meetings (TBM·Tool Box Meeting) at environmental cleanup sites in towns and townships.
The county announced on March 5 that, over the past five days, it held 10-minute pre-work safety inspection meetings (TBM) at environmental cleanup sites in towns and townships.
Since 2025, the county has been implementing TBMs at on-site workplaces, where workers gather with field leaders such as supervisors and team leaders to review and share work details and safety rules. This initiative aims to spread a culture of safety and health and to prevent industrial accidents.
This round of inspection meetings was conducted over five days at five town and township environmental cleanup sites, with Jongbok Jeong, County Governor and safety and health management officer, participating as the "daily TBM leader." Before work began, the team checked workers for any health issues and verified proper use of protective equipment. They also confirmed awareness of safety rules, inspected for harmful and hazardous factors at the site, and led stretching exercises together.
Given that most on-site workers are middle-aged or older, particular emphasis was placed on preventing safety accidents such as falls and collisions, as well as on the importance of following safety rules and performing stretching exercises before and during work to prevent musculoskeletal and cold-related illnesses.
Additionally, since February of this year, the county has introduced eco-friendly vacuum road cleaning equipment in Jeonggwan-eup on a pilot basis to improve the working environment of environmental cleanup workers and create an eco-friendly city. Safety training on proper equipment use was also provided to workers operating the new machinery.
Governor Jeong stated, "While providing a pleasant environment for residents is important, the safety of workers is paramount," and urged, "Please strictly follow the two-person team safety work rules when operating the newly introduced vacuum road cleaning equipment."

The introduction of eco-friendly vacuum road cleaning equipment is expected to enable more effective cleaning of areas that were previously difficult to maintain with brooms, such as storm drains. This is anticipated to help prevent unpleasant odors in rainwater pipelines and reduce the risk of flooding.
Jung Jongbok, the mayor, is engaging in a one-day TBM leader activity for environmental maintenance in the downtown area of Jeonggwan-eup.
