Kim & Chang Recruits Former Samsung C&T Compliance Officer Vice President Hyun-dong Lee
Joining the Corporate Advisory Group
Kim & Chang announced on March 5 that it has recruited Hyun-dong Lee, a lawyer with hands-on experience in corporate compliance management and criminal advisory services.
Lee graduated from the School of Law at Seoul National University and completed the 19th Judicial Research and Training Institute program. He built expertise in investigation and the criminal justice sector while serving as a prosecutor at the Busan, Seoul, and Incheon District Prosecutors' Offices. He also received training at the University of Michigan and Duke University Law School (LL.M.) in the United States.
After joining Samsung Group in 2000, he held positions including Executive Director of the Corporate Restructuring Headquarters, Managing Director and Vice President of the Group Legal Office. Notably, he played a pivotal role in establishing the compliance system that serves as the foundation of ESG management, making a significant contribution to embedding a culture of compliance within Samsung Group. From 2016, he served as Vice President and Head of Compliance at Samsung Heavy Industries, and from 2020, as Compliance Officer at Samsung C&T Corporation.
By joining the Kim & Chang Corporate Advisory Group, Lee will focus on providing advisory work across the entire compliance spectrum, including internal investigations, anti-corruption, governance structure establishment, criminal risk response, and audit and investigation response for corporations. In particular, he is expected to emphasize delivering practical and actionable solutions that are required in the complex regulatory environments faced by multinational corporations and large conglomerates.
Sang-gon Kim, Managing Partner at Kim & Chang (23rd Judicial Research and Training Institute), stated, "Hyun-dong Lee is a rare practitioner who has led compliance not just from a legal advisory perspective but as a core part of corporate management strategy. At a time when both domestic and international companies are faced with rising demands for robust governance, his experience and insights will deliver significant value to our clients."
