Approximately 30 people attended the meeting, including Chairman Geum Gwangyeon, city council members, heads of each dong, and representatives of related organizations such as local residents’ councils, coming together to discuss strategies for regional development.
Notably, since the second half of the 9th council, this series of roundtable meetings—first initiated in 2024 and now in its third session—has firmly established itself as Hanam City Council’s representative regular communication channel, according to observers.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Geum emphasized the constitutional spirit that stipulates the establishment of local councils, stating, “The council has the mission to promote residents’ welfare through checks and cooperation with the executive branch,” and underscored, “This meeting is essential for identifying areas for improvement in municipal administration through direct communication with related organizations, and for the council to fully fulfill its role as a dual engine of local autonomy.”
Accordingly, the council boldly reduced formalities and procedures, opting instead for a pragmatic communication style by sitting down face-to-face with residents to discuss local issues, resulting in a high level of satisfaction among participants.
Most importantly, the greatest achievement of this meeting was its 'responsible feedback.'
The council did not simply listen to complaints; it provided residents with a detailed report on the outcomes and current status of all 53 suggestions collected at last year’s meeting. Solutions achieved were shared as successes, while issues requiring long-term review were transparently explained, further enhancing the credibility and accountability of the council’s activities.
Furthermore, 49 new suggestions were collected during this meeting. Participants candidly raised urgent issues directly related to residents’ daily lives, including: the creation of new metropolitan and village bus routes and the expansion of the public transportation network; ensuring pedestrian safety and improving living environments such as streams; building infrastructure for resident convenience, such as senior centers and sports facilities; revitalizing traditional alleyway commercial districts and pursuing mutually beneficial regional development; and establishing essential facilities such as emergency medical centers within the area.
The council plans to thoroughly manage follow-up by promptly consulting with the relevant executive departments on new suggestions raised on site, seeking solutions, and individually notifying contributors of the results.
Upon concluding the Cheonhyeon-dong meeting on March 3, Chairman Geum remarked, “It was a deeply meaningful experience to be able to keep our promise to find answers in the field with citizens in the 2026 New Year of Byeong-O Year.”
He continued, “This meeting was not just about listening, but also about confirming how we fulfilled past promises—a process of building trust. The vivid opinions heard on site will be immediately reflected in legislative activities, and we will work closely with the executive branch to develop practical solutions that citizens can feel, doing our utmost to realize a truly trusted council.”
Chairman Geum added, “Although the term of the 9th Hanam City Council is nearing its end, we will devote every effort until the very last moment to achieve a successful conclusion.”
