Chey Tae-won Of SK Meets Vietnam's To Lam In Washington...Discusses Energy Cooperation
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won recently met with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Washington DC, United States, to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the energy and industrial sectors.
According to The Asia Group (TAG), a global strategic advisory firm, Chairman Chey held a separate meeting with General Secretary To Lam at a TAG-hosted event in Washington DC on the 20th (local time). SK Innovation CEO Chu Hyoungwook and TAG Chairman Kurt Campbell also attended the meeting.
Chairman Chey was visiting Washington DC to attend the "Trans-Pacific Dialogue (TPD) 2026" hosted by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies. General Secretary To Lam was also in the United States to attend the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Peace Committee, and it is reported that the meeting between the two sides was arranged by TAG.

The energy industry is paying close attention to the fact that the meeting took place immediately after SK Innovation was selected as the final operator for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) power generation project in the Quynh Lap area of Nghe An Province, Vietnam.

On the 19th, SK Innovation, in a consortium with PV Power, a power generation subsidiary under Vietnam's state-owned oil and gas group PVN, and local company NASU, won a project worth a total of 2.3 billion dollars (about 3.3 trillion won) to build a 1,500 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant, an LNG terminal, and a dedicated port.
