The safety inspection that day focused on potential vulnerabilities that can arise during the thaw season, such as cracks in exterior walls, the condition of the rooftop waterproofing layer, and whether any drainage pipes had burst. In particular, the safety of facilities mainly used by seniors, including the auditorium, cafeteria, and program rooms, was thoroughly inspected.
Mayor Lee Donghwan said, "As soon as the holiday ended, the very first place I came to was where the seniors are," stressing that "the safety and welfare of our seniors are top priorities that cannot be postponed even for a single day."
He added, "The thaw season is when facilities that were frozen during winter begin to thaw, increasing the risk of safety accidents," and said, "We will do our utmost through thorough inspections to ensure that seniors can use the welfare center with peace of mind."
