Korea University of Energy and Technology (KENTECH) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (hereinafter KEPCO) announced on February 12 that they are launching full-scale joint research to advance and demonstrate core technologies in the field of energy AI.

KENTECH signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at its main campus on February 11 to strengthen joint research and technological cooperation in energy AI. This agreement was promoted to establish a cooperative framework between the two institutions for joint research, talent development, and infrastructure sharing aimed at developing and commercializing core AI technologies in the energy sector, based on their shared recognition of the need to build an energy AI ecosystem.

Under the agreement, the two institutions plan to focus on: joint research for the development and demonstration of core AI technologies in the energy sector; joint use of AI computing infrastructure and research hubs; talent development through internships, personnel exchanges, and educational programs; and industry-academia-research collaboration, including support for technology commercialization and startups.

Acting President Park Jin-ho said, "We will enhance the completeness of our joint research so that the research outcomes with KEPCO can be translated into industrial practice," adding, "We will build an industry-academia-research cooperation model that connects specialized talent development all the way through to technology commercialization."

Through this agreement, the two institutions are expected to accelerate the digital transformation of the energy industry and contribute to securing competitiveness in next-generation power and energy technologies, as well as to creating a sustainable energy innovation ecosystem.
