LG Uplus announced on the 11th that CEO Hong Beomsik will deliver the opening keynote speech at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 26, the world's largest mobile communications exhibition, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, on March 2. Hong will be the first executive from LG Group to serve as an official keynote speaker at MWC.

At this year's MWC26, in addition to CEO Hong Beomsik, other keynote speakers will include John Stankey, CEO of AT&T, Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, and Justin Hotard, CEO of Nokia, among other CEOs of global telecommunications companies.

In his keynote speech, CEO Hong will announce the beginning of the full-fledged era of AI call agents under the theme of "Human-Centered AI." He has prepared this keynote with the idea that LG Uplus's self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) call agent "ixi-O" can create a new customer experience in voice calls and make connections more valuable. During the keynote, he will also present a video featuring the story of a family who come to appreciate each other's value through voice calls.

According to LG Uplus, the keynote is also significant as a declaration of its strategy to target the global AI market. At a time when no company has yet clearly distinguished itself in the field of AI application services worldwide, LG Uplus intends to convey its determination to pioneer the global AI market by putting ixi-O at the forefront.

In 2024, LG Uplus launched "ixi-O," Korea's first on-device AI call agent. In addition to call recording and summarization, ixi-O offers features such as real-time voice phishing detection and AI-synthesized voice detection. Recently, in collaboration with Google, the company also released a service that enables generative AI-based search during calls via voice commands.

Meanwhile, before the opening of MWC26, CEO Hong is scheduled to attend a dinner hosted by King Felipe VI of Spain. Each year, the King of Spain invites CEOs from members of the GSM Association (GSMA) who are delivering keynote speeches at MWC to this dinner. CEO Hong plans to use this occasion to showcase the excellence of South Korea's AI technology.

CEO Hong's keynote speech will take place at 11:30 a.m. (local time) on March 2, the opening day of the event, and it will be broadcast live on GSMA's MWC26 YouTube channel.
