Reports can be filed in cases of "discharging pollutants from ships or marine facilities, etc." and "discovering pollutants that have been discharged into the sea." Reports can be made by calling 119 or by visiting the nearest Coast Guard station or substation.
Over the past five years (2021–2025), the Mokpo Coast Guard has paid rewards for a total of 28 cases, amounting to 7.22 million won. Depending on the type and discharge volume of the pollutants, the reward ranges from a minimum of 50,000 won to a maximum of 3 million won.
An official from the Mokpo Coast Guard said, "Even if a report does not specifically identify the person responsible for marine pollution, we pay a reporting reward if it helps detect the violation during on-site inspections," adding, "Public attention is essential to creating a clean marine environment, so we ask people not to hesitate to report when they discover marine pollution."
