Subcontracted Worker Critically Injured
Remains in Critical Condition Despite Hospital Treatment
An accident occurred at a factory in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in South Jeolla Province, where a subcontracted worker became trapped in robotic equipment and fell into a state of unconsciousness.
According to the Yeosu Police Station and fire authorities on January 31, a report was received at around 12:39 a.m. that day that a worker in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, had become trapped in packaging robot equipment at a factory within the Yeosu Industrial Complex in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
The 119 emergency rescue team dispatched to the scene rescued Mr. A, who was in cardiac arrest, and performed CPR while urgently transporting him to a nearby hospital. Mr. A is currently receiving treatment at the hospital but remains unconscious and is reported to be in critical condition.
Mr. A, who is employed by a subcontractor, was performing packaging work as part of a two-person team with a colleague at the time of the accident.
According to the investigation, Mr. A entered the interior of the packaging equipment alone to inspect it after it stopped operating, and his chest became trapped between the robot, which suddenly resumed operation, and the conveyor.
It is reported that his coworker, who had briefly left to use the restroom, returned to find Mr. A trapped in the equipment and called for help.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including whether there was a mechanical malfunction and whether on-site safety regulations were followed, by questioning factory officials and witnesses.
