Gwangyang City Forecasts Continued Cold Wave This Weekend... Suggests "Gwangyang Mu-cance"
Gwangyang Mu-cance:

From Joseon Dynasty Masterpieces to AI Media Art
Experience Local Life at Gwangyang Five-Day Market
As a cold wave is forecast to continue into the coming weekend, Gwangyang City has suggested the "Gwangyang Mu-cance" as a travel course where visitors can enjoy high-quality culture and arts indoors during the winter season.
In Gwangyang, the POSCO Museum of Art and the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art are simultaneously hosting high-level exhibitions that span from Joseon Dynasty paintings and calligraphy to artificial intelligence-based media art. After viewing the exhibitions, visitors can head to the nearby Gwangyang Five-Day Market to experience "A Very Ordinary Day (Aboha)," where they can soak in the everyday life and scenery of the southern region while lingering in the afterglow of art.

This exhibition features 38 works of Joseon Dynasty paintings and calligraphy, which were repatriated en masse from the Yu Hyun-jae Collection in Japan through private efforts. It is drawing attention as a rare opportunity to view these works in person in Korea.
The exhibition includes landscapes, figure and genre paintings, flower-and-bird paintings, and animal paintings from the early Joseon period to the modern era, as well as works left by the Joseon Tongsinsa (diplomatic missions to Japan). Visitors can explore the traces of art and Korea-Japan cultural exchange from that era.
At the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, four exhibitions are being held simultaneously: "A Legacy of Giving," "Wind, Light, Waves," "Kim Seondu: The Texture of Color, The Breath of Stroke," and "Data and Artificial Intelligence, Imaginative Landscapes, Fictional Narratives." Visitors can enjoy a wide range of exhibitions, including one that highlights the value of the museum's collection formed through donations, paintings themed on the nature of the southern region, the 40-year artistic journey of a master of Korean painting, and contemporary art created with data and artificial intelligence technology.
These exhibitions can be enjoyed by all generations, making them attractive not only to families visiting during the winter vacation but also to young adults and culture enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of experiences.
In particular, at 2 p.m. on January 31, an artist talk linked to the "Kim Seondu: The Texture of Color, The Breath of Stroke" exhibition will be held, with 50 participants invited on a first-come, first-served basis through Naver reservations.
After viewing the exhibitions, visiting the nearby Gwangyang Five-Day Market, which opens on days ending in 1 and 6, is another enjoyable aspect of a winter trip. Amid the warm atmosphere of the market, visitors can browse seasonal produce and local specialties, naturally carrying the artistic inspiration from the museum into the warmth of daily life.
A Gwangyang City official stated, "During the winter season, when the cold wave continues, visitors can enjoy high-quality cultural and artistic content as well as the daily life of the region indoors in Gwangyang. The proximity of the museums and the traditional market allows visitors to experience both culture and cuisine within a short distance, which is the unique charm of the Gwangyang Mu-cance."
