However, the walking trails along the streams, installed during the public housing district development, have consistently raised safety concerns due to frequent slip accidents during rain or snow, caused by the nature of the paving materials.
In response, on December 18, Guri City secured a special local grant of 600 million won for the second half of 2025 to fund the "Galmaecheon to Galmae 3cheon Walking Trail Maintenance Project." With this budget, the city plans to upgrade the walking trails along Galmaecheon and Galmae 3cheon using eco-friendly paving materials.
Through these improvements, the city aims to create a safe and pleasant walking environment and, at the same time, address recent increases in extreme heat and other climate change effects by establishing shaded rest areas along the trails, providing citizens with comfortable urban stream spaces for relaxation. The maintenance work is scheduled to be completed in the first half of next year.
Mayor Baek Kyunghyun stated, "Since the walking trails along Galmaecheon and Galmae 3cheon are spaces used by many residents of all ages, ensuring safety is of utmost importance. We expect that this maintenance project will allow citizens to use the urban streams more safely."
