Gwangju Dong-gu Named Top Institution in National Cancer Control Project, Wins Gwangju Mayor’s Award
Gwangju Dong-gu District announced on the 17th that it was selected as the top institution in the national cancer control project at the "2025 Gwangju-Jeonnam National Cancer Control Project Best Practices Evaluation Conference" held recently at Hwasun Chonnam National University, and received the Gwangju Mayor’s Award.
This evaluation was conducted by Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do Province to comprehensively analyze the outcomes of local cancer prevention and early screening programs, identify best practices, and improve the level of regional cancer management. The evaluation criteria included various indicators such as project management systems, efforts to improve screening rates, and promotional activities.
The evaluation targeted 27 cities, counties, and districts in Gwangju and Jeonnam, and consisted of a first-round document review that comprehensively assessed project plans and achievements in four areas: cancer prevention programs, national cancer screening programs, medical expense support for cancer patients, and home care management for cancer patients. In the second round, six institutions selected as best practices presented their cases for on-site evaluation, and the final awards were determined.
Dong-gu District received high marks for its theme, "Lowering the Barrier to Health: Cancer Screening with Local Residents with Disabilities in Dong-gu," by establishing a public-private-academic cooperation model that included customized outreach promotions and health screenings for vulnerable groups, and by showcasing diverse promotional strategies for cancer prevention.
