Police Request Arrest Warrant for Vietnamese Student in 'Newborn Abandonment' Case
The police have requested an arrest warrant for a Vietnamese national mother accused of abandoning her newborn baby, resulting in the baby's death.
On December 16, the Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it had applied for arrest warrants for Ms. A, a Vietnamese international student in her 20s suspected of child abuse resulting in death, and her accomplice, Ms. B.
According to the police, Ms. A is suspected of abandoning her baby in front of a building near Dongguk University Seoul Campus in Jung-gu, Seoul, at around 6:25 p.m. on December 14. Ms. B is accused of assisting in the abandonment at the scene and participating in the crime.
At the time, the police and fire authorities responded to a report that "a newborn had been abandoned in a paper bag." They transported the baby to the hospital, but the baby ultimately died.
