The Ministry of National Defense announced on December 15 that it has appointed Bitna Jung, a former reporter at Yonhap News Agency (age 38), as its new spokesperson. Jung, who is in her 30s, is the youngest person ever to hold the position of spokesperson at the Ministry of National Defense.
Spokesperson Jung joined Yonhap News Agency in 2011, working in the Korean Peninsula Department and later serving as a correspondent in Brussels. She also covered the Ministry of National Defense as a reporter from 2020 to 2022 during the Moon Jae-in administration.
A Ministry of National Defense official stated, "The new spokesperson will faithfully serve as a bridge between the Ministry, the media, and the public, effectively communicating defense policies in a way that is accessible to the public. Based on her sensibility as a young journalist, we expect her to actively engage with the public and contribute to restoring trust in our military."
