Gyeonggi Provincial Library Hosts Historical Exhibition on Eight Independence Activists, December 10-18

Gyeonggi Province is hosting a special historical exhibition titled "Connecting Generations, Continuing Independence" on the 4th floor of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library from December 10 to 19, 2025, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. The exhibition is designed to reflect on the spirit of independence through the lives of independence activists and their descendants.

This exhibition focuses on the lives and activities of eight independence activists from the province-Im Myonsu, Lee Gyujun, Cho Moonki, Shin Suk, Hong Gareuk, Um Hangseop, Oh Huiok, and Kim Yeonbang-as well as the stories of their descendants.

Through family photos, activity photographs, personal belongings, and recorded oral interviews, the exhibition highlights the independence movement as a history that has been carried on across generations, rather than merely a record of a single era. The exhibition content is organized according to the flow of time from the 1890s to the 1940s, allowing visitors to trace the journey of the independence movement from its beginnings to liberation and beyond at a glance.

At the opening ceremony held on December 10, Gyeonggi Province also presented plaques of appreciation to the descendants of independence activists in a meaningful gesture.

Kim Hoon, Director of Welfare at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "December 10 is a significant day when the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea declared its commitment to independence to the world. I hope this exhibition serves as a valuable opportunity to remember the sacrifices and spirit of the independence activists and to pass on their values to the next generation."
