Continued Pressure on President Maduro
On December 10 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.
According to The Washington Post, President Trump told reporters at the White House, "We just seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. It's a large oil tanker. In fact, it's the largest oil tanker we have ever seized."
He added, "Other things are happening as well," but did not provide further details. He also mentioned that he would explain more at a later time.
This measure is seen as an effort to increase pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. President Trump has been pressuring President Maduro under the pretext of combating drug cartels.
