Open to All Employees: AI Idea Competition

LG Display has held an internal artificial intelligence (AI) competition to discover new projects, allowing all employees to contribute ideas related to the company's AI transformation (AX).

On December 10, LG Display announced that it had hosted the "2025 AX Hackathon" and held an awards ceremony. The hackathon is an event for LG Display employees to generate AI-based ideas and develop programs. A total of 83 teams (143 participants) took part, with 15 teams advancing to the finals after a six-week pilot development process.

The grand prize was awarded to the "AI-Based Construction Advancement System." This project was highly evaluated for its alignment with the theme of maximizing work productivity and efficiency, as well as its immediate applicability and potential to contribute to business operations.

Yoon Soonhee, head of the construction procurement team and recipient of the grand prize, explained, "The idea was inspired by the inconvenience I felt during actual work, thinking it would be great to automate manual tasks with AI. By utilizing this system, the time required for document review can be reduced by 96% compared to the current process, and an annual cost savings of approximately 4.1 billion won is expected."

This year, LG Display introduced the "AX Hackathon" by combining its traditional hackathon with the theme of AI, aiming to raise awareness of AX and foster a culture familiar with it. The event focused on ways to enhance work productivity using AI, and was open to all employees without any special eligibility requirements. In particular, non-developer staff were paired with developers to reduce the burden of development and lower barriers to participation.

LG Display plans to register the AI projects submitted to the "AX Hackathon" as patents and promote their application to work processes. The company is also considering ways to link these projects to tangible business outcomes, including company-wide adoption.

Lee Byungseung, head of LG Display's AX Group, stated, "The combination of ideas proposed from the perspective of practitioners and the motivation to create solutions beneficial to the company has led to meaningful results. We will continue to spread an AX culture where anyone can become a leader of work innovation by combining creative ideas with AI technology."
