Public-Private-Government Collaboration... BPA Named Top Institution at Port Security Competition
Busan Port Authority (BPA), led by President Song Sangkeun, won the top prize at the "2025 Port Security Best Practices Competition" held by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in Sejong on December 5.
The "Port Security Best Practices Competition," hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2013, is an event aimed at discovering and sharing exemplary cases of port facility security. This year, more than 250 participants attended, including officials from regional maritime affairs and fisheries offices, the four major port authorities, and security managers from private port facilities.
Busan Port Authority was selected as the best institution by presenting security innovation cases at Gamcheon Port, focusing on various achievements to prevent security incidents. These included: collaboration with private companies to develop Korea's first artificial intelligence CCTV for ship monitoring; establishing a joint training system with military units within the port; conducting joint land and sea inspections in cooperation with related agencies; and improving the operation system for security access gates.
Gamcheon Port, a traditional port facility handling general cargo and frozen seafood, is known for its crowded piers and less favorable security environment compared to North Port and New Port in Busan. In this context, the cooperative efforts among the public sector, private companies, and government agencies, led by Busan Port Authority, to strengthen the security system were highly praised.
