The event was attended by more than 50 experts from both countries, including Lee Heeseung, Director of KIOST; Jang Kiuk, Director of the Busan Port Construction Office, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries; Hiroyasu Kawai, Director of the Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI); Soichi Miyazaki, Chairman of the Coastal Development Institute of Technology (CDIT); and Shuichi Tsuda, Chairman of the Waterfront Vitalization and Environment Research Foundation (WAVE).
This year's workshop was held under the theme "Development and Utilization of Sustainable Coastal Spaces" and aimed to seek effective responses to coastal disasters exacerbated by climate change, as well as to explore ways to utilize coastal and port areas more safely and in an environmentally friendly manner.
The event began with an opening address by Lee Heeseung, Director of KIOST, followed by keynote presentations from experts from both countries. These included a keynote speech by Park Wooseon, Senior Researcher at KIOST, on "Application of Interlocking Caissons to Port Structures," and a special lecture by Haruo Yoneyama, Senior Researcher at PARI, on "Current Status of Offshore Wind Power Research."
KIOST plans to use this workshop as an opportunity to discuss ways to jointly utilize not only KIOST's infrastructure but also PARI's major experimental facilities and the advanced numerical models developed by CDIT.
