Gyeonggi Province has produced 25 graduates through its nanotechnology workforce development project, which was conducted this year for third-year students at specialized high schools.

The nanotechnology workforce development project is implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, with support from Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education. On December 8, Gyeonggi Province held the second-half graduation ceremony at the Korea Nanotechnology Research Society.

This year, the program was operated in collaboration with Amkor Technology Korea, linking education directly to employment. Among the graduates, 19 will be hired as full-time employees at Amkor Technology Korea in January next year, following their high school graduation.

All 25 trainees, who completed 450 hours of coursework since September, graduated without any dropouts. Hojeong Jeon from Samil Technical High School and Yoojin Oh from Hanbom High School’s Visual Design Department received the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor’s Award for outstanding academic performance.

Park Minkyeong, Director of the Semiconductor Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “We will continue our efforts to supply field-oriented professional technical personnel to small and medium-sized businesses in the province, while providing students with career opportunities and stable employment, thereby contributing to youth employment expansion and the development of the semiconductor industry in Gyeonggi Province.”

Launched in 2013 to create youth jobs in the province and support technical workforce needs at small and medium-sized enterprises, this program utilizes the advanced facilities, equipment, and expert personnel of the Korea Nanotechnology Research Society to train technical professionals in semiconductor processes and equipment. To date, it has produced over 760 semiconductor technicians, with more than 89% of graduates securing employment at small and medium-sized businesses in the province.
