Hyundai Mobis Establishes SW Research Hub in Bengaluru, India: "Attracting Local Talent"
Bengaluru Branch to Serve as Infotainment Software Hub
Hyundai Mobis announced on December 8 that it has established a new software (SW) research branch in Bengaluru, the IT hub of India. Alongside the integrated research center in Hyderabad, which was established earlier this year, Hyundai Mobis will operate the Bengaluru site as a specialized SW research branch, implementing a dual-track R&D policy that reflects the characteristics of each region.
Located in the southwest of India, Bengaluru is the capital of Karnataka and is renowned for its vibrant software ecosystem, which includes global IT companies, startups, and research institutions. As demand for SW research and development has grown, Hyundai Mobis has been considering additional sites across India and ultimately selected Bengaluru due to its excellent SW development environment.
The main reason behind establishing this new research branch is to secure top talent. India’s diverse languages and cultures vary by region, and the pool of skilled professionals is heavily influenced by the local industries. As a result, global automakers and parts suppliers are increasingly operating branches in major Indian cities.
Hyundai Mobis also took into account the presence of many local clients in Bengaluru. By running a branch in the city, the company aims to build a system that can quickly respond to client requests, thereby enhancing its global order-winning competitiveness.
Hyundai Mobis plans to utilize the Bengaluru branch as a specialized base for infotainment SW. The Indian automotive market is currently shifting from small cars to medium and large vehicles, and the installation of high-value-added electronic components such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is on the rise.
The existing integrated Hyderabad site will continue to serve as the local R&D headquarters, responsible for SW strategy development, collaboration with global research centers, and application (app) development. The Bengaluru branch will focus on areas closely linked to hardware (HW), such as frameworks that underpin SW functionality.
Hyundai Mobis is strengthening its global competitiveness by operating key sites across India, including factories and research centers. The two production sites in Chennai and Anantapur manufacture modules and core components, while the Gurugram parts center ensures a stable supply of after-sales (AS) parts. Together with the newly established Bengaluru branch and the integrated Hyderabad research center, Hyundai Mobis is leading SW-focused R&D, and it also operates a procurement center in Delhi and a quality center in Chennai.
Hyundai Mobis is working to diversify its order portfolio from global clients in India and expand its orders. The company has set an aggressive goal of increasing the order value from Indian clients by about six times by 2028 compared to 2025.
