Koo Simon, Head of the Landscape Design Team and presenter at the event, introduced public design as "design that enhances the public nature and aesthetics of public facilities." He explained, "Uijeongbu City has been actively implementing design administration since 2009, and has strengthened its system through the establishment of the Urban Design Office in 2022 and the announcement of the 'Uijeongbu, a Walkable City' vision, among other initiatives."
Mr. Koo also presented the direction of Uijeongbu City's public design. The city is harmoniously improving its urban landscape by applying calm colors that blend with nature throughout the city center, while using highly identifiable colors for essential facilities.
In addition, by prioritizing pedestrian safety and convenience, the city is accelerating the creation of a pedestrian-oriented urban environment through maintenance of utility poles and support facilities, improving accessibility to bus stops, and addressing risk factors on bicycle paths.
Furthermore, the city is working to expand open urban spaces by removing the fence around the City Hall lawn and replacing opaque soundproof walls near schools with transparent ones.
