The range of Chuncheon voucher taxi services, previously available only to people with disabilities and senior citizens, will be significantly expanded to include transportation support for pregnant women.
The Chuncheon city government (Mayor Yuk Donghan) announced that starting next year, the voucher taxi service will be renamed "Bomgil Taxi," and the eligibility criteria, previously focused on the elderly and people with disabilities, will be expanded to include pregnant women.
Currently, voucher taxi users are limited to 15 rides per month, which has been a major constraint for seniors and people with disabilities who need frequent transportation. Additionally, the voucher card operates as a debit card, requiring users to pay the full fare upfront and receive reimbursement a month later, creating a significant financial burden for those with limited economic means.
In response, the city will remove the ride limit and introduce a new system in which users pay only 1,500 won per ride within the subsidy limit, with the remaining amount subsidized immediately. Under this change, citizens currently using voucher taxi cards must visit their local administrative welfare center this month to receive a replacement card. Pregnant women will be able to apply for Bomgil Taxi starting next year by presenting a pregnancy confirmation certificate.
Detailed information is available through the Chuncheon City civil service call center.
