This year’s contest theme was "A Gift for Myself That Gives Me Dreams and Hope," and a total of 228 stories were submitted. After a review process, 100 finalists were selected.
Notably, this year, many stories stood out for the way children prioritized their families over themselves.
A, an 11-year-old girl, wrote by hand, "In October, a tumor was found in my mother's head, and now she is bedridden at home while receiving hospital treatment. My mother struggles to wash the bedding every two to three days, so I really need an antibacterial bedding pad set for her."
B, a 9-year-old boy, requested a hand massager, saying, "My mother's hands hurt because she works so hard with them." C, an 8-year-old girl, wished for a toy sterilizer for her younger sibling who has a brain lesion disability and for her hardworking mother.
Other requests included stylish backpacks, warm padded jackets, desks, books, sneakers, kickboards, bicycles, and more-gifts the children had always wanted. Seo-gu plans to deliver customized gifts worth up to 300,000 won per child during December.
