Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation to Hold "Winter Chestnut Olympics" on December 6
A Variety of Activities Including Five Chestnut-Themed Games and Roasted Chestnut Experiences
The Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation in North Jeolla Province will hold the "2025 Sunchang Winter Chestnut Olympics" event at the Yonggwol Mountain parking lot on December 6.
According to the foundation on December 3, this festival is co-hosted by Sunchang County, the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation, and Jeonju University RISE Project Group. It has been organized as a resident-participatory village festival aimed at addressing regional depopulation and revitalizing the local economy and community.
The main programs of the "Winter Chestnut Olympics" include five chestnut-themed competitions-Chestnut Curling, Chestnut Bowling, Chestnut Rolling (Chestnut Golf), Chestnut Darts, and Winter Chestnut Blue Marble-as well as an awards ceremony. These events utilize chestnuts, a specialty product of Sunchang's Donggye area.
In addition to the competitions, a variety of hands-on programs and food booths will be available for families visiting the festival. There will be a large roasted chestnut experience zone and cooking classes using chestnuts, offering activities that visitors of all ages can enjoy.
The festival grounds will also feature rest areas such as picnic zones and photo zones. A camping zone where visitors can experience the winter atmosphere and a chestnut character photo zone will also be set up, providing guests with special memories.
The performance program will include stages featuring fusion Korean traditional music, jazz bands, and trot music that families can enjoy together. There will also be a diverse range of on-site events, such as magic shows and chestnut Tuho (a traditional Korean pitching game).
