Hanwha Systems to Develop Core Technology for Military Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Communications
Hanwha Systems Begins Development of Space Semiconductors for Satellites
Hanwha Systems has begun the development of domestically produced space semiconductors for satellites.
Expected exploded view shape of the transceiver space semiconductor to be developed by Hanwha Systems
View original imageOn December 3, Hanwha Systems announced that it had signed a project agreement with the Agency for Defense Development for the "Transceiver Space Semiconductor Technology for (Ultra) Small Satellite Multi-Channel Beamforming Systems."
The space semiconductor to be developed will be responsible for transmitting and receiving satellite communications between the ground and space, and is characterized by supporting digital, rather than analog, beamforming. Beamforming is a technology that focuses signals on a specific receiver instead of sending them in multiple directions. Through digital signal processing, it enables precise control of beams and provides a stable communication environment.
In addition, since it is designed as a multi-channel device, it can perform communication functions efficiently with a small number of semiconductor components and can be mounted on compact communication satellites. Once development is complete, it is expected to play a key role in realizing low-Earth orbit satellite communications for the South Korean military.
