Winter Disaster Response Measures in Place Until March 15 Next Year
Imsil County in North Jeolla Province is making every effort to prevent natural disasters such as heavy snowfall and cold waves during the winter season.
The county announced on December 2 that it has designated the four-month period from November 15 of this year to March 15 of next year as the winter disaster response period and is implementing a special comprehensive plan to prepare for heavy snowfall and cold waves.

During the winter disaster response period, if a heavy snowfall or cold wave advisory is issued, the county will immediately activate an emergency response system and plans to respond swiftly through step-by-step situation management.
Additionally, the county will operate specialized teams for each function related to winter natural disaster cooperation, checking preparedness in each sector in advance. Any deficiencies identified during joint inspections of towns and villages will be immediately addressed and rectified.
Currently, the county has stockpiled 942 tons of snow-melting agents and is considering securing additional supplies using disaster management funds. The purchase of eight new snow removal vehicles has further strengthened the county's ability to respond to heavy snowfall.
For ten areas identified as vulnerable to winter disasters, the county is conducting both regular and ad-hoc inspections to eliminate risk factors in advance.
To respond to cold waves, the county is operating 135 cold wave mitigation facilities, 344 cold wave shelters, and 2 emergency shelters. When a cold wave advisory or warning is issued, the county will provide immediate access to emergency shelters for elderly people living alone and other vulnerable groups upon request.
In particular, for vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone and low-income households, the county is strengthening support by providing winter supplies, establishing emergency contact networks, and conducting frequent welfare checks to build a robust protection system for the prevention of cold-related illnesses.
Upon request, the Imsil County Disaster and Safety Situation Room is also prepared to serve as an emergency shelter, ensuring immediate protection when needed.
The county plans to continue promoting guidelines on how to act during heavy snowfall and cold waves and will promptly send disaster alert messages when weather advisories are issued to minimize inconvenience for residents.
