Hanam Unites Through K-POP: Dance Challenge Concludes with 10 Winning Teams Announced
A Total of 10 Teams Win, Including Grand Prize Winner 'Twinkle'
Silver Prize Goes to Youngest Participant, 4-Year-Old Park Seha
The 'Hanam K-POP Dance Challenge,' which saw citizens completing dance performances against various urban backdrops, has come to a close amid enthusiastic participation. On December 1, the city announced that it had selected 10 teams (or individuals) as the final winners of the 'Hanam K-POP Dance Challenge,' which was held from November 5 to November 26.
This challenge was planned to build on the excitement of the 'Global K-POP Dance Challenge,' which concluded in October, giving citizens the opportunity to become the stars of the stage and showcase their talent and passion.
A total of 52 teams, comprising 179 citizens, participated, and the challenge garnered significant attention with over 72,000 cumulative views on YouTube. Contestants presented unique visuals and choreography, using Hanam’s major landmarks such as Misa Lake Park, Union Tower, and Misa Regatta Park as their backdrops.
The grand prize was awarded to contestant number 37, 'Twinkle.' This team of five elementary school students-Kim Daon (5th grade at Misa Jungang Elementary School), Lee Soyun, Son Hara (both 4th grade at Misa Jungang Elementary School), Choi Yuna (4th grade at Deokpung Elementary School), and Han Serin (4th grade at Hanholl Elementary School)-received praise for their smooth scene transitions and high level of synchronized choreography in a video filmed at Hanam Sports Complex and Misa Regatta Park.
They secured first place with a total score of 92.5 points, combining 42.5 points from expert judges and 50 points from YouTube 'likes.' Their 123 'likes' were the highest among all entries.
The gold prize was awarded to both contestant number 11 and contestant number 21. Team 11 was praised for their stable composition and precise group choreography against the backdrop of the Misa Station clock tower, while Team 21 was noted for their bright energy and creative choreography at Misa Lake Park.
The silver prize went to contestant number 45, Park Seha, who attracted attention as the youngest participant at just four years old. Wearing a Taekwondo uniform and performing an adorable routine, Park Seha was even dubbed "the hero of this challenge" by citizens. In total, 10 teams were named as winners: one grand prize team, two gold prize teams, three silver prize teams, and four bronze prize teams.
This competition also drew attention for its bold approach to balancing skill and completeness in the evaluation process. YouTube 'likes' (50%) and expert judging (50%) were weighted equally, but to prevent excessive score gaps based on the number of 'likes,' every participant was awarded a base score of 10 points, with the remaining 40 points distributed proportionally according to the number of 'likes.' This 'minimum score guaranteed relative evaluation' system was applied.
Hanam Mayor Lee Hyunjae said, "Through this challenge, citizens of all ages, from four-year-olds to teenagers, have shown their abundant talent and passion. Moving forward, in connection with the creation of 'K-Star World,' we will continue to provide various stages where citizens can enjoy and directly participate in culture in their daily lives."
