Wide-Area Priority Signal System Introduced to Secure Golden Time for Emergency Vehicles
Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Park Hyungdeok, announced on November 28 that it has completed the installation of an 'online traffic signal control system' covering all sections of the city for the first time in northern Gyeonggi Province, along with a 'wide-area emergency vehicle priority signal system.' After a one-month pilot operation in December 2025, the city will officially launch full-scale operations starting January 1, 2026.

The city has converted all traffic signal controllers to an online control system, establishing a foundation for real-time signal monitoring, remote control, and immediate response to unexpected situations.
Notably, Dongducheon City is the first in northern Gyeonggi Province to convert 100% of its traffic signals to an online control system, which is expected to become a core infrastructure for the future development of the city’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
The newly established wide-area emergency vehicle priority signal system automatically assigns priority to signals along the routes of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances, supporting the securing of golden time and reducing arrival times. This system is designed to be interconnected with all cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province, enabling continuous priority signal provision even in wide-area emergency dispatches that cross city boundaries.
Dongducheon City plans to conduct pilot operations throughout December, testing the system’s stability and emergency vehicle integration on major routes inside and outside the city, as well as at fire stations. Full-scale operation will commence on January 1, 2026.
Furthermore, the city intends to continue advancing its Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) by introducing AI-based signal optimization, big data analysis of traffic, and AI-powered CCTV for traffic flow monitoring.
