Seongdong-gu and Musinsa Sign Agreement to Revitalize Seoul Forest Road Commercial District
Commitment to Sustainable Growth Through Establishment of a Mutual Growth Model Between Residents and Businesses
Seongdong-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced on November 28 that it had signed a mutual growth agreement on November 26 with the Seongdong-gu Cooperative Residents’ Council and Musinsa Co., Ltd. to revitalize the commercial district around the Seoul Forest Road area.
This agreement is the result of efforts to respond to the local community’s and residents’ calls for a new leap forward for the Seoul Forest Road commercial area and to establish a foundation for public-private cooperation. Since 2016, Seongdong-gu has proactively implemented policies such as organizing the Cooperative Residents’ Council to prevent gentrification and protect the community, and designating the Seoul Forest Road and Seongsu-dong areas as “Sustainable Development Zones.”
The Cooperative Residents’ Council plays a key role in the sustainable operation of the local commercial district by deliberating on the entry of large corporations and franchises and discussing issues related to protecting the commercial area. Through this agreement, Musinsa Co., Ltd. plans to promote social contribution projects for the mutual growth and revitalization of the local commercial district and to actively cooperate in activities to protect the local ecosystem.
The Residents’ Council will be responsible for gathering opinions on commercial district protection and discussing improvement measures with Musinsa, while both parties agreed to closely cooperate in areas necessary for operating mutual growth programs, such as linking human and material resources.
