Gwangju City to End Digital Onnuri Refund Program Early on 25th Due to Budget Exhaustion
Gwangju City announced on the 25th that it will end the digital Onnuri Gift Certificate refund program early, with benefits only provided for purchases made up to the 25th, due to the exhaustion of the allocated budget. The city explained that participation exceeded expectations, resulting in the rapid depletion of the 1.512 billion won refund budget.
Gwangju City, in collaboration with the Small Enterprise and Market Service and Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation, launched this initiative to boost consumption in traditional markets and local commercial districts. Customers who made cumulative purchases of at least 10,000 won at local Onnuri Gift Certificate-affiliated stores received a 10% refund on their spending, with a weekly maximum of 20,000 won per person.
As of 4 p.m. the previous day, a total of 188,813 people had benefited from the program, with total refunds reaching 1.4 billion won. Gwangju City expects the entire budget to be exhausted on the 25th, considering the current pace of spending.
