Local partner companies based in Gumi also participated in the event.
Hanwha Systems has relocated and expanded its production base from its previous 45,000-square-meter (13,630-pyeong) site to a new facility more than twice the size, covering 90,000 square meters (27,000 pyeong). The new Gumi site will support domestic force integration projects for self-reliant national defense, while also expanding technology development and production to meet growing global security demands.
In particular, the new business site is expected to further strengthen its competitiveness as both an "export hub for Korea's defense industry" and a "center for technological innovation," by integrating Hanwha Systems' core technologies into its production lines and equipping them with the latest facilities.
The Gumi site features a cleanroom of approximately 5,000 square meters (1,500 pyeong), the largest in Korea's defense industry, where electro-optical products and key radar components for various weapon systems are manufactured. The reputation of the Marine Research Institute, which developed the combat management system (CMS) supplied to most Republic of Korea Navy vessels over the past 40 years, will also continue at this new site. Notably, the facility will serve as a "technology hub" for developing future naval power solutions, such as unmanned vessels and motherships for unmanned systems, based on the advancement of intelligent combat management systems utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, enabling automated engagement, autonomous navigation, and intelligent propulsion control.
The multi-function radar (MFR) and combat management systems produced at the Gumi site are Hanwha Systems’ flagship export items. In 2022, Hanwha Systems exported the Cheongung-II multi-function radar (MFR) worth trillions of won to the United Arab Emirates, followed by Saudi Arabia last year, and Iraq this year. The company also supplied domestically developed combat management systems for 13 naval vessels to the Philippines.
The 2,300-square-meter (700-pyeong) materials management center, equipped with logistics robots and automation systems, systematically manages more than 20,000 types of raw materials and advanced defense equipment to maintain optimal material conditions and maximize production stability and logistics efficiency through efficient supply.
