The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a statutory private economic organization that serves as a bridge between industry and government. It has 74 chambers of commerce nationwide and approximately 180,000 member companies, and is a key institution active in various economic fields, including economic policy discussions, improvement of corporate-related laws and systems, and regulatory reform.
This meeting was organized to discuss cooperation measures to strengthen and grow the industrial ecosystem for the seven future industry strategies currently being promoted by the province, utilizing the nationwide and global network of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The province explained its major SOC (Social Overhead Capital) projects, such as the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway, the Pocheon-Cheorwon expressway, and the Samcheok-Gangneung high-speed railway, emphasizing that these are essential for strengthening the province’s industrial competitiveness, and requested support and policy cooperation from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In addition, the province highlighted that the "Water-Cooling Energy Cluster," which utilizes cold water from Soyanggang Dam, is the optimal location for hosting a super-large (240MW class) data center, and asked the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to actively promote corporate investment and attraction using its network.
Furthermore, the province shared information on new industry policy transitions in mining regions, such as the establishment of hydrogen storage and transportation clusters in Donghae and Samcheok, the production of clean methanol in Taebaek, and the development of an industrial complex for the recycling of critical minerals. The province also requested broad corporate participation in its future energy and resource industries.
In response, Executive Director Park Dongmin stated, "Gangwon’s future industry strategy is an important task not only for the regional economy but also for enhancing national competitiveness," and added, "The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continue to provide practical cooperation in various fields, including industry, investment, and energy transition."
Governor Jin Tae Kim said, "The province is completely redrawing its industrial map centered on the seven future industries. In particular, although semiconductors were a barren field just three years ago, we are now investing 23 billion won in ten projects." He also stated, "Gangwon Province is no longer a distant place, but has entered an era where it is connected to the Seoul metropolitan area within about one hour," and explained that the "Right in Front of You Challenge" is being promoted to change perceptions.
The governor requested, "We ask for your continued interest and support for Gangwon Province so that residents can feel tangible growth and development."
