Jinan History Museum Certified in Ministry of Culture’s Public Museum Evaluation
Certified for Four Consecutive Rounds
Recognized for Solid and Effective Operations
The Jinan History Museum in North Jeolla Province announced on November 24 that it has been selected as a certified institution in the "2025 Public Museum Evaluation and Certification System" implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This selection marks the fourth consecutive time that the Jinan History Museum has been designated as a certified institution, having been recognized in every evaluation conducted since the introduction of the public museum evaluation and certification system in 2017, including the years 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2025. The museum received high marks for its role in collecting and managing local historical materials and for its solid operations.
The public museum evaluation and certification system is implemented under the "Museum and Art Gallery Promotion Act." It was introduced to enhance the quality of public museum operations and, in turn, improve the level of public service provided to citizens.
The evaluation targets public museums that have been registered for more than three years. The certification period lasts for three years, and certified museums are issued a certificate and granted the right to publicly announce their status.
For the 2025 evaluation, a total of 296 public museums nationwide were assessed. The evaluation, covering the period from 2022 to 2024, included criteria such as the achievement of the museum's founding purpose, the adequacy of organization, personnel, facilities, and financial management, the thoroughness of collection and management of materials, exhibition and education program performance, and public responsibility. Both document reviews and on-site inspections were conducted.
Among the 19 public museums in North Jeolla Province evaluated this year, the Jinan History Museum was one of five to be selected for certification in all four rounds. Opened in 2006, it is the only comprehensive museum in Jinan County, providing integrated exhibitions and education on Jinan's history and culture, and fulfilling the role of preserving and managing the region's cultural heritage.
In particular, in 2025, the museum underwent a complete renovation for the first time in about 20 years since its opening, and reopened on September 4, receiving enthusiastic responses from many visitors. The "2025 National Treasure Touring Exhibition: Baekje Masterpieces, Baekje Pattern Exhibition," co-hosted and organized by the National Museum of Korea, Jinan History Museum, and the Iksan National Museum, is being held until November 30 and offers local residents the opportunity to enjoy high-quality cultural experiences through the display of national heritage treasures.
