"Celebrating Entry as One of North Jeolla's Four Major Cities and the Groundbreaking of the Sports Complex"
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province will hold the event "Wanju's Great Leap Forward, Opening the Next 100 Years" on November 29 to celebrate its entry as one of the four major cities in North Jeolla and to mark the groundbreaking of the Wanju Sports Complex.
According to the county on November 24, this event has been organized to commemorate these achievements together with residents and to present a vision for the next 100 years of progress through the groundbreaking ceremony for the sports complex.
The official title of the event, "Wanju's Great Leap Forward, Opening the Next 100 Years," reflects Wanju County's determination to pursue even greater development as it enters an era with a population of 100,000.
The event will take place at the site of the planned Wanju Sports Complex, around the Wanju Tennis Court area, and will include both a ceremony celebrating Wanju's entry as one of the four major cities in North Jeolla and the groundbreaking ceremony for the sports complex. The Wanju Sports Complex project is a core initiative to create a comprehensive sports town on a site of approximately 300,000 square meters in Ungok-ri, Yongjin-eup, with a total project cost of about 96 billion won.
The comprehensive sports town will be developed in stages, starting with the first phase tennis courts, followed by an indoor tennis facility (with four courts), a multi-purpose gymnasium for indoor activities such as badminton, volleyball, and foot volleyball, and a family-friendly children's sports park combining play, sports, and relaxation. The final fourth phase will see the construction of the main sports complex, completing the central hub for sports and culture.
On the day of the event, a celebratory performance will be held before the official ceremony, followed by reports on Wanju's entry as one of the four major cities in North Jeolla and progress updates on the sports complex project.
County Governor Yoo Heetae stated, "Wanju's entry as one of the four major cities in North Jeolla is a testament to the collective strength of all our residents," adding, "The groundbreaking of the sports complex is a key starting point for opening the next 100 years of Wanju's future, and we will move forward together with our residents toward even greater progress."
