Dokdo Museum Opens Permanent "Dokdo Guardian" Exhibition Hall
at the Heart of Thailand
Dokdo Museum and the Korean International School in Bangkok opened a "Dokdo Permanent Exhibition Hall" on November 21, aiming to foster accurate historical awareness among students through Dokdo education.
Since 2013, Dokdo Museum has held special exhibitions on Dokdo overseas. Starting in 2017, it has promoted the "Establishment of Dokdo Permanent Exhibition Halls in Korean Schools Abroad" project to support Dokdo education for Korean children and youth living overseas.
As a result, exhibition halls were established at Wuxi Korean School in China in 2017, Shanghai Korean School in China in 2019, and Hanoi Korean School in Vietnam in 2024. The new exhibition hall at the Korean International School in Bangkok is the fourth permanent exhibition hall established at a Korean school abroad.
The Korean International School in Bangkok first opened at the Minburi Nong Chok campus in 2001 and relocated to the Bang Khen Ramintra campus in 2020. Currently, 178 students are enrolled, and the school has become a central educational institution for Korean youth residing in Bangkok.
Notably, this school was selected as one of five overseas Korean schools for the "Dokdo Textbook Distribution Project" promoted by the Gyeongbuk Office of Education in 2024. Through continuous Dokdo education, the school is furthering understanding of Dokdo and strengthening the will to protect it within the Korean community abroad.
The newly opened Dokdo Permanent Exhibition Hall at the Korean International School in Bangkok was created by remodeling the school library. It will serve as an educational space to promote and offer experiences related to Dokdo not only for students but also for staff and external visitors.
The exhibition hall is an experiential space focused on digital content, offering information about Dokdo’s history, nature, and artificial structures through various videos and kiosks. In addition, Dokdo VR content has been developed so that visitors can vividly experience the scenery of Dokdo through virtual reality.
Furthermore, Dokdo Museum signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean International School in Bangkok to ensure efficient operation of the exhibition hall and continued support for Dokdo education. Through this agreement, Dokdo Museum will provide newly developed digital content for immediate application in the school’s exhibition hall and share educational materials and resources, fostering diverse forms of cooperation.
