50 "Daejeon Design Hotspots" Unveiled to Discover Design Value
New Spaces Classified by Three Emotions: Inspiration, Experience, and Time
15 Additional Locations Selected This Year
The Daejeon Design Promotion Agency (President Lee Changki) has unveiled the "Daejeon Design Hotspots," which classifies 50 hidden gems in Daejeon into three emotional categories: inspiration, experience, and time.
The "Daejeon Design Hotspots" project, organized by the agency, will further expand the network of 50 design hotspots connecting all five districts of Daejeon this year, following its launch in 2024. This expansion is based on suggestions from citizens and designers, with 15 new locations added to discover and spread the value of local design.
In 2025, a wide range of perspectives from citizens and experts were gathered through the submission of ideas for the Daejeon Design Hotspot Designer Participation program during the open call period.
A total of 111 candidate sites were submitted. The "Daejeon Design Hotspot Selection Committee," composed of local designers and experts in related fields, comprehensively evaluated each location’s local characteristics, creative practicality, and accessibility for citizens, ultimately selecting 15 final sites.
This year’s design hotspots were selected around places that fit the three categories of "spaces of inspiration," "spaces of experience," and "spaces of time."
The 15 selected locations consist of six spaces of inspiration, five spaces of experience, and four spaces of time. A variety of local creative and cultural spaces such as Prelude Shop, Shop Peak, Cap Project, Noto, Ppyojokjip, and Daejeon Creative Center were included in the list.
"Daejeon Design Hotspots" is not simply a guide to popular places; it is a citizen-participatory design culture project that discovers and connects the creativity and local identity hidden within Daejeon's people, spaces, and design attitudes.
The project highlights the meaning of design embedded in everyday urban spaces and documents the design ecosystem created collaboratively by local creators and citizens.
President Lee Changki stated, "Daejeon Design Hotspots is not just about introducing spaces; it is a platform that connects Daejeon's design sensibility with the creative energy of its citizens. We will continue to expand a design ecosystem in which citizens actively participate."
Meanwhile, the agency is also hosting a citizen participation event. Anyone who visits any of the 15 newly selected hotspots in 2025-or any of the designated spaces-can take a verification photo and upload it to SNS or a blog with the hashtag "#DaejeonDesignHotspot" for a chance to win a coffee coupon through a drawing.
