Sunchang County to Hold 'Ssangchi Alkkongdalkong Festival' on November 22
A Variety of Fun Activities Including Bean Threshing Experience and Fermented Soybean Block Making
Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province will hold the 'Sunchang Ssangchi Alkkongdalkong Festival' on November 22 in the Ssangchi-myeon area.
According to the county on November 20, this festival is a unique village event designed to address the issue of regional depopulation. It is co-hosted by Sunchang County, the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation, and the Jeonju University RISE Project Group.
The festival will feature experience programs using Sunchang Ssangchi beans, the Alkkongdalkong Golden Wedding Ceremony, and various food booths, creating a space for both tourists and local residents to come together. The highlight of the festival will be a joint golden wedding ceremony for 11 couples from Ssangchi-myeon who have been married for over 50 years.
The event will take place on the main stage and will proceed in the following order: wearing of traditional hanbok attire, presentation of golden wedding plaques, congratulatory performances, and cake cutting. It is expected to offer a touching moment to celebrate and honor the precious love shared by couples over many years.
In addition, there will be five bean-themed programs-'Open the Bean,' 'Find the Bean,' 'Move the Bean,' 'Roll the Bean,' and 'Eat the Bean.' There will also be a variety of hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy, including bean threshing, Injeolmi rice cake pounding, making fermented soybean blocks, and bean bowling.
At the food booths, a variety of local dishes and snacks made with Ssangchi beans-such as soybean stew, soybean pancakes, tofu with kimchi, and soybean powder ice cream-will be available for purchase, promising to delight visitors' senses.
The festival venue will also feature a sales zone for agricultural and specialty products produced in Ssangchi-myeon, a photo zone, and a heated rest area (with stoves), all aimed at enhancing the convenience and comfort of attendees.
