Hanwha General Insurance Earns Integrated A Grade for Fifth Consecutive Year in ESG Standards Institute Evaluation
Received Top A+ Grade in Environmental Category
Recognized for Efforts in Climate and Environmental Protection
Hanwha General Insurance announced on November 20 that it has received an integrated A grade (Excellent) for the fifth consecutive year in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Standards Institute evaluation.
Hanwha General Insurance was awarded an integrated A grade in this year's evaluation, which was conducted the previous day. The integrated A grade is given to companies that demonstrate a high level of ESG management across multiple areas.
This year's evaluation covered 1,090 companies (1,024 listed companies and 66 unlisted financial institutions). According to Hanwha General Insurance, it is rare for a non-life insurance company to receive an integrated A grade for five consecutive years.
In particular, the company received the highest grade of A+ in the environmental (E) category this year. This was due to improvements in energy consumption, expansion of the scope of environmental data management, incorporation of climate risk assessments, and increased activities for biodiversity conservation.
In 2021, Hanwha General Insurance established an ESG Committee within its board of directors, the company's highest decision-making body. The company has published a sustainability report every year, summarizing its ESG achievements.
Since CEO Na Chaebeom took office in 2023, the company has aimed to become "the insurance company that understands women best," expanding the development of new products and social contribution activities for vulnerable groups. This year, Hanwha General Insurance published an integrated ESG policy book and established a foundation for pursuing mid- to long-term ESG strategies.
