The 38th anniversary memorial ceremony for Hoam Lee Byung-chul, the founding chairman of Samsung, will be held on the 19th near the ancestral grave by the Hoam Museum in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

According to the business community, affiliates of the broader Samsung family, including Samsung, Shinsegae, CJ, and Hansol, will visit the ancestral grave in Yongin at different times, as they have in previous years.

From Samsung, Hong Rahee, Honorary Director of Leeum Museum of Art, Lee Boojin, President of Hotel Shilla, and Lee Seohyun, President of Samsung C&T Corporation, are expected to attend.

Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics and grandson of Hoam, will not be present at the site as he is scheduled to attend the Korea-United Arab Emirates Business Round Table (BRT) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on the 19th (local time). It has been reported that he will pay his respects separately after returning to Korea.

Lee Jay-hyun, Chairman of CJ Group and the eldest grandson of Hoam, is expected to visit the ancestral grave with his family in the morning. As in previous years, he also plans to hold a memorial ritual at his traditional house in Jung-gu, Seoul.

In the afternoon, Cho Dong-gil, Chairman of Hansol Group and Hoam's grandson through his daughter, along with executives from Shinsegae Group, will visit the ancestral grave.

The greater Samsung family used to hold a joint memorial ceremony in the past, but since the inheritance dispute between former CJ Chairman Lee Maeng-hee and the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee in 2012, they have held separate memorial events at different times on the same day.

The presidents of Samsung are also not expected to attend this year, following last year's precedent.

Founding Chairman Lee Byung-chul established "Samsung Sanghoe" in 1938, based on the export of fruits, vegetables, and dried seafood. This later became Samsung C&T Corporation, and CheilJedang, which started as a sugar business in 1953, has since become the origin of today's CJ Group.
