Hwang Jeongin, Senior Superintendent, who was demoted after attending the 2022 Senior Superintendents' Meeting, has been appointed as the head of the working-level team for the police's 'Constitutional Respect Task Force (TF)'.
According to the National Police Agency on November 18, Senior Superintendent Hwang will lead the TF and investigate whether the police were involved in any illegal activities during the 12·3 Martial Law. The plan is to utilize both the agency's internal audit personnel and external experts to identify and address any acts of plotting, executing, justifying, or concealing martial law within the organization.
In 2022, during the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, Senior Superintendent Hwang attended the Senior Superintendents' Meeting opposing the establishment of the Police Bureau within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. As a result, he was demoted from Head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit to Academic Affairs Manager at the Police Investigation Training Institute. Although the Academic Affairs Manager position can be held by both superintendents and senior superintendents, it was considered a disciplinary transfer.
Originally from Daejeon and a graduate of the Korean National Police University (7th class), Senior Superintendent Hwang later served as the Head of the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division at the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency and is currently the Chief of Seosan Police Station in Chungnam.
