Gijang County in Busan Holds "Welfare Promotion Event for Persons with Disabilities"

Over 800 Participants Gather
A Venue for Inclusion and Harmony to Promote Rights and Expand Social Participation

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) held the "2025 Gijang County Welfare Promotion Event for Persons with Disabilities" on November 18 at Gijang Gymnasium, hosted by the Gijang County Association for Persons with Disabilities (President Choi Chundong).

This event was organized to promote the rights and expand the social participation of persons with disabilities. Approximately 800 people attended, including Gijang County Governor Jung Jongbok, Gijang County Council members, Busan Metropolitan Council members, persons with disabilities and their families, and volunteers, creating a warm atmosphere of inclusion and harmony.

The event featured a variety of programs, beginning with an exciting janggu (traditional Korean drum) performance, followed by an awards and appreciation plaque ceremony, scholarship and family support fund presentations, donation of sponsored items, opening remarks, congratulatory speeches, encouragement addresses, a performance by an invited singer, and a singing contest for persons with disabilities.

At the venue, booths were set up to provide participants with useful information, including: guidance and counseling on the rights of persons with disabilities (Busan Human Rights Center), information on activity support services for persons with disabilities (Gijang County Association for Persons with Disabilities), and guidance and counseling on welfare policies for persons with disabilities (Gijang County).

President Choi Chundong stated, "We will continue to provide diverse support so that persons with disabilities can live more comfortably in the local community," and added, "The association will take an active lead in promoting the welfare of persons with disabilities."

Governor Jung Jongbok said, "I am grateful to everyone who is dedicated to promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities," and emphasized, "We will spare no effort in providing active support to create a warm local community where persons with and without disabilities live together in harmony."

This year, Gijang County has been implementing various policies to improve convenience for persons with disabilities, such as launching a transportation subsidy program for low-income persons with severe disabilities.

Next year, the county plans to continue its efforts by expanding disabled parking spaces and convenience facilities at the Disability Center, increasing the installation of chargers for electric mobility aids, and supporting the installation of portable ramps for persons with disabilities.
