Gyeonggi Province Launches Winter Road Snow Removal Plan... Deploys 5,000 Pieces of Equipment and 140,000 Tons of Deicer
Province Implements Winter Road Snow Removal Measures Through March Next Year
Thorough Preemptive Planning and Early Response System to Minimize Resident Inconvenience
Priority Management and Intensive Oversight for Major Connecting Roads and Designated Routes
Gyeonggi Province has designated the four-month period from November 15, 2025, to March 15, 2026, as the "2025-2026 Winter Road Snow Removal Countermeasure Period" and will operate a prompt and systematic road snow removal system during this time.
This initiative aims to strengthen preemptive measures to ensure a swift response to sudden snowfalls, prevent traffic accidents on roads, and minimize inconvenience to residents by facilitating smooth traffic flow through effective communication.
Accordingly, the province will operate a 24-hour situation management system and closely cooperate with cities, counties, and relevant agencies to implement phased snow removal activities, taking into account factors such as snow accumulation, weather conditions, and time of day.
The province has established snow removal plans for 19,961 kilometers (36,058 routes) of roads managed by the province and local governments. To this end, Gyeonggi Province has secured 2,194 snow removal vehicles, 3,298 pieces of snow removal equipment (such as spreaders), 681 brine spraying facilities, 53 road heating systems, and 13,158 snow removal boxes, all installed on major routes in the province. A total of 147,662 tons of deicing agents have been prepared, including 62,227 tons of eco-friendly deicers (about half of the total), which help minimize metal corrosion and environmental damage.
As part of efforts to enhance the efficiency of road snow removal, the province is currently installing additional road heating systems at 14 locations in six cities-namely Icheon, Anyang, Osan, Seongnam, Gwacheon, and Guri-following last year’s installation at 10 locations in six cities, including Anyang and Yangju.
To ensure effective snow removal, the province has designated and will focus resources on the following: priority management roads (343 locations in 28 cities and counties), roads connecting to Seoul (54 routes in 11 cities), highway entrances (96 locations on 16 routes), and sections vulnerable to icing (362 locations in 29 cities and counties). Equipment, personnel, and materials will be intensively deployed and managed in these areas.

Kang Seongsup, Director of Construction at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "By establishing a prevention-oriented snow removal plan, we will pre-deploy sufficient personnel, equipment, and deicing agents to ensure a rapid response not only to sudden snowfalls but also to heavy snow that falls in a short period. After snowfall, we will also conduct follow-up measures such as pothole inspections to minimize inconvenience for residents. We are committed to strengthening our field-oriented snow removal system so that residents can use the roads with peace of mind."
