Former National Museum Director Paek Kidong Receives Appreciation Plaque from ICOM Asia-Pacific Alliance
Recognized for Contributions to the Development of Museums in the Asia-Pacific Region
The Korean Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) announced on the 17th that Paek Kidong, Honorary Chairman of the Korean Committee, received a plaque of appreciation from the ICOM International Asia-Pacific Alliance.
Honorary Chairman Paek was recognized for his contributions to the development of museums in Korea and the Asia-Pacific region at the 27th International Council of Museums conference recently held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
He is a Paleolithic archaeology specialist and a museum expert who has served as Director of the Hanyang University Museum, Director of the Jeongok Prehistory Museum, Chairman of the National Museum Foundation, and Director of the National Museum of Korea.
This year's ICOM General Conference was held under the theme "The Future of Rapidly Changing Communities and Museums." Participants shared the status of museums in their respective countries and discussed future development plans, focusing on topics such as the preservation and transmission of intangible heritage and the power of youth. The Korean Committee, together with the Korean Museum Association, set up a booth to promote Korean culture and museums.
