The company has been producing OLED materials and is reportedly planning to expand its business by broadening its product portfolio to include battery and semiconductor materials.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Lee Kwonjae and Masayuki Kaneshige, CEO of Idemitsu Advanced Materials Korea, among others. The company introduced the current status of the research center's operations and the background for considering expansion.
The city explained that the discussion was held to check the progress of Idemitsu Kosan's review of expanding a second research center in Osan and to hear opinions from the company on site.
The city also stated that, since the research center expansion is still in the early stages of discussion, the meeting was arranged to identify any administrative procedures or institutional requirements that may arise during the process of expanding research infrastructure.
Previously, in July last year, Idemitsu Kosan opened a research center in Naesammi-dong, Osan, where it has been conducting research on core OLED material development and process technology.
Mayor Lee stated, "It is very important for the research and development environment of advanced materials companies to be stably expanded in order to enhance Osan's future industrial competitiveness," and added, "We will actively support all necessary aspects to ensure the smooth progress of the review for expanding the second research center."
