The Daejeon Special FX Festival is the only festival in the country dedicated to special effects, and unlike general film festivals, it is a meaningful event aimed at discovering special effects technology experts and expanding the industry ecosystem.
The awards will recognize and honor works, technical staff, and actors who have demonstrated creativity and excellence in special effects fields such as special filming techniques, art, props, and makeup, among video content including films and dramas released over the past year (from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025).
This year's slogan is "Feel the vision," and a variety of programs are planned, including the opening and closing ceremonies, red carpet events, OTT Awards (15 technical and acting awards), film screenings and audience Q&A sessions (GV), special effects technology case lectures, achievement exhibitions, job counseling, and an AI video content contest awards ceremony.
Notably, to strengthen the festival's international exchange and expansion, Vietnam, the country with the highest proportion of foreigners and international students in Daejeon, has been selected as the guest of honor this year.
The opening film will be "I Am Alone, Prince," a Korea-Vietnam co-production directed by Kim Sunghoon and starring Lee Kwangsoo, which was filmed on location in Vietnam. There will also be opportunities for the director and actors to meet and communicate directly with the audience.
In addition, the OTT Awards have attracted attention, with numerous notable works, special effects technicians, and actors who made headlines over the past year nominated and drawing keen interest in the results.
The major nominees include a total of 208 titles, such as "When Life Gives You Tangerines," "Squid Game 3," "Harbin," "Hi-Five," "Toemarok," "Escape: Project Silence," "The Firefighter," "Newtopia," "Sweet Home 3," "Unknown Seoul," "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl," "More Beautiful Than Heaven," "Bogota: The Land of the Last Opportunity," "Jeon·Ran," and "In the Forest Where No One Exists."
