Tragedy on School Route: High School Girl Fatally Struck by 17-Ton Cargo Truck
A high school girl on her way to school in Gwangju was fatally struck by a large cargo truck. The police have booked the driver on charges of causing death by traffic accident under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
According to the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station on November 13, at around 8:14 a.m. the previous day, a 17-ton cargo truck driven by a man in his 60s, identified as A, hit a 17-year-old high school student, identified as B, who was crossing the road in front of a factory in Unsu-dong, Gwangsan District.
B, who was seriously injured in the accident, was transported to a hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The police investigation revealed that A failed to notice B crossing the access road while making a right turn from the factory entrance to the main road.

B was reportedly on her way to a nearby high school at the time of the accident. The police are investigating the details of the incident and also plan to review whether improvements are needed to the traffic facilities at the accident site.
