The advanced display national research platform, promoted by the 8th popularly elected administration's "Strong Chungnam" initiative, will be established in Asan with an investment of 300 billion won. By linking this with the display materials, parts, and equipment (so-called "Sobu-jang") specialized complex centered around Cheonan and Asan, Chungnam is expected to emerge as a global hub for cutting-edge display technology.
On November 12, the province announced that it has attracted the "Advanced Display National Research Platform" to Asan, aiming to enhance South Korea's next-generation display technology competitiveness.
This project will be led by the central government, with a total investment of 300 billion won to establish the National Advanced Display Research Institute.
The National Advanced Display Research Institute will be equipped with demonstration-oriented research infrastructure, including a research support building, cleanroom building, and utility building, serving as a joint research hub where companies, universities, and research institutes can collaboratively develop and verify technologies.
This achievement is expected to generate synergy, as it aligns with Governor Kim Taeheum's 8th-term pledge to "rapidly foster the display materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex."
The Cheonan and Asan region was designated as a specialized complex for display materials, parts, and equipment by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 2021, and related R&D projects have been actively pursued. With the establishment of this national research platform, a Chungnam-style full-cycle display ecosystem is expected to be completed.
In particular, Cheonan's "Display Innovation Process Center," which opened this year, and the "Smart Modular Center" being built in Asan, are responsible for demonstrating organic and inorganic light-emitting displays, respectively. The new platform will serve as the "national control tower" overseeing these centers.
