Seo-gu, Gwangju's "1,000-Won Taxi" Recognized as an Outstanding Example of Transportation Welfare Innovation
Grand Prize Awarded to "1,000-Won Taxi for the Medically Vulnerable"
The "1,000-Won Taxi," a flagship transportation welfare policy in Seo-gu, Gwangju, has been recognized as an outstanding example of administrative innovation.
According to Seo-gu on November 12, the district held the "2025 Innovation Best Practices Competition" at the Nanum Hall of the Seo-gu Office the previous day, where each department shared the best policies they had implemented throughout the year.
This competition received a total of 21 entries across three categories: communication and cooperation, service improvement, and work efficiency. After a document review and online voting, five outstanding cases advanced to the final round.
During the competition, one team was selected for the grand prize, two teams for excellence awards, and two teams for encouragement awards through presentation evaluations.
The grand prize was awarded to the Care Policy Division for its "1,000-Won Taxi for the Medically Vulnerable." The 1,000-Won Taxi program allows patients with serious illnesses to pay only 1,000 won for taxi fares when visiting hospitals, with Seo-gu subsidizing up to 30,000 won per trip.
Since its launch in June, the program has been used 1,000 times by 400 people in just 100 days, and it has been recognized as an innovative model that links transportation welfare with public healthcare.
The excellence awards went to the Architecture Division for "Planning and Producing a Standardized Manual for Public Building Construction Projects" and the Welfare Policy Division for "Zero Welfare Gaps with Seogu Honors." The encouragement awards were given to the Accounting Information Division for "Generative AI Account Support for Work Innovation" and the Community Autonomy Division for the "Picnic with 1,000 Won" program.
